Instant Morality, Liao Guohe’s third solo exhibition in Shanghai, features paintings and sculptures made especially for the occasion.
In Instant Morality Liao Guohe continues to expound obscure, satirical criticism about contemporary culture through his discordant, yet enchanting painting style. Utopian, irreverent, expressive, Liao’s raw canvases, often marked with absurd poetic rants, demonstrate a bold attitude that is unprecedented. The title Instant Morality plays off popular Chinese sayings during this Year of the Horse that describe society’s anxiety about money, time, and happiness (Instant Wealth, Instant Love, etc.). Equally as quirky as the title, Liao’s lines and unique sensibilities frame his canvases and sculptures in both a sociopolitical context as well as longstanding literati tradition.
Liao Guohe (b.1977) graduated from Specialized Education Department of Hunan Normal University. He currently works and lives in Changsha.
