Everyone revels in their own way. The Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai reveled in drunken binges that enhanced his sense of artistic purpose and helped produce the lyrics that have delighted generations since. The counter-culture movement of the 1960s in America and Europe reveled in sex, drugs and rock and roll as a way to challenge the Vietnam war and what they saw as a defunct political establishment. Children tend to revel in everything outside of chores and schoolwork. At one point or other we have all reveled in our own misery. Today we have seized the occasion of Shanghai MoCA's auspicious 8th year anniversary to revel in this great city's burgeoning visual cultural scene.

Shanghai's contribution to global contemporary visual arts is unequaled, and in the next years, with the advent and expansion of new art venues, poised to fortify even further. MoCA, the original bastion of contemporary art in Shanghai, has been a staunch supporter of international arts and design as well as the local art scene for a steady eight years. This exhibition gathers together some of the most revered, international art stars, as well as promising younger talent from Shanghai and beyond as a way to revel in the spirit of this great city's contemporary art. Like Shanghai itself, this exhibition is divided into quarters. The quarters act as a way to assess the mutual inspiration, shared influences and diverse approaches to revelry that the great creative incubator of Shanghai harbors.

《陶醉》

每个人总以自己的方式“陶醉”。唐代诗人李白好把酒吟诗，以求得灵光一现，写就启迪数代人的诗句。上世纪六十年代，反文化的浪潮席卷整个欧美大陆，人们选择性、毒品和摇滚的陶醉方式来挑战越南战争以及这种他们认为毫无价值的政治里程。孩子们总是想方设法地从各类琐碎的杂事和学校作业中解脱出来自我陶醉。就某一点而言，我们都陶醉在各自的苦难中。今天，借助上海当代艺术馆成立八周年之际，我们得以陶醉于这座伟大城市一片欣欣向荣的视觉文化景观。

上海对于全球当代视觉艺术的贡献是无可比拟的，且在今后的数年内，随之兴起的艺术新地标更将其推向了浪尖。作为上海当代艺术界的鼻祖，上海当代艺术馆在过去的八年中自始至终坚持推广国际艺术与设计，同时更是致力于支持本土艺术群体。本次展览涵盖的艺术家来自上海乃至其它部分地区，有备受尊崇的国际艺术巨星，也囊括了我们艺术界的未来之星，我们将以此陶醉于这座伟大城市所蕴涵的当代艺术精神之中。整个展览将被划分为不同的区域，就如同上海本身的面貌。在这座文化港口的孕育下，各个区域将彰显艺术家各自多样化的“狂欢”手法，其中亦可体会他们相互间的启发与经验的共享。
