The Rapture of Romantic Illusions

As the next installment of MABSOCIETY's CON.TEXT Series- a program which situates art events outside of the traditional art space or "white box"- The Rapture of Romantic Illusions explores the possibility of breaking the boundaries between contemporary art and daily life. This exhibition imagines a fictitious romantic encounter set sometime between the gilded age of Shanghai and the undiscovered future where the two opposite ends of the social spectrum meet in a passionate, mysterious, and tragic romance. Placed throughout the newly built Fudi villa clubhouse, an environment that recalls the highlife of old Shanghai, laden with rich and conflicted characters such as Du Yuesheng and Ruan Lingyu, as well as a heightened sense of modern luxury, these chosen artworks evoke the narrative of a timeless romance. It is an imaginary love story, quixotic and transcendental, yet plagued by deceit, espionage and seduction. Bringing together works of photography, film, painting and installation from some of today’s most famous contemporary artists, this poetic display bridges intriguing art with a spirited surrounding.

《罗曼蒂克幻象之迷》

作为MABSOCIETY的下一期“语境”系列，即发生在传统艺术空间或“白盒子”以外的艺术活动，《罗曼蒂克幻象之迷》尝试探索突破当代艺术与日常生活之间界限的各种可能性。展览试图描绘一场虚幻的浪漫邂逅：在老上海的辉煌年代与等待探索的未来之间迷离合转，两位身份悬殊的男女主人公之间发生的一段激情、神秘而不幸的传奇爱情。展出场地设置在新落成的复地香栀花园会所内，其环境本身便使人联想起十里洋场的纸醉金迷，又连带出活跃于那个时代富有传奇色彩的多面人物，像是杜月笙和阮玲玉，再附上一层现代感的摩登与奢华，这些精心挑选的艺术作品陈列其中，引人浮想联翩，催生出一种不受时空限制的罗曼蒂克情怀。这是一段幻想的爱情故事，超越世俗，不切实际，但又充满欺骗、刺探和诱惑。展览将集合许多当今最为先锋的当代艺术家作品，涵盖了摄影、影像、绘画及装置，以一种诗意的展现方式在富有生气的环境之中烘托迷人的艺术。
